LAGOS — As part of efforts at combating the menace of climate change, Eti Osa Local Government Council of Lagos State has said it is set to float the first bio-diesel refinery in the country.
Chairman of the Local Council, Prince Olarenwaju Elegushi, disclosed this in Lagos during a press conference to announce a national climate change dialogue scheduled for tomorrow.
Elegushi who deplored the devastating impact of climate change on Africa, said climate change had become the greatest threat facing the continent and must be faced with all resources at the disposal of government at all levels to stem the trend.
He blamed the increasing rate of climate change in Africa, saying “since it is only Africa that bears bulk of the impact, the continent must no longer afford to sit back and watch while the environment and the people keep living under the threat of the menace.â€
It was for this reason he said the Eti Osa local government council decided to pioneer innovation in climate change in West Africa through the establishment of the bio diesel refinery in the Sub-Sahara Africa, with the hope of reducing the negative effect on the people of Lagos state.
