ENUGU—WORK has commenced in earnest on the proposed multi-billion naira Enugu Centenary city, described by experts as the most ambitious and audacious real estate development project in sub-saharan Africa.

The project which is also known as the Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City, is a partnership venture between the Enugu State government and renowned estate development firm, Private Estates International (West Africa) Limited.

Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Mr. Kingsley Eze, told newsmen in Enugu at the weekend that the project was conceived by the Enugu State government as an answer to the many challenges facing the old Enugu city,  adding that it was a key component of Governor Sullivan Chime’s four-point agenda.

These challenges he said, included poor town planning, dilapidated infrastructure, lack of maintenance and poor building codes, adding that the new city had been designed to change the outlook, work conditions and lifestyle of all  Enugu residents.
