Eagles must be fit to excel ,Ekundina

By Jacob Ajom
By Jacob AjomVeteran football coach, Alfred Ekundina has tasked the new national team manager, Lars Lagerback to ensure the Eagles squad for the World Cup was made up of players who were fit and committed.

Speaking with Sports Vanguard, Sunday, coach Alfred Ekundina said that the new national team helmsman must stamp his authority on the team and ensure the players did what he asked of them.

The former Lobi Stars of Makurdi sweat merchant believed that if Lagerback was able to instill discipline in the team, “every other thing will follow.” Continuing, Ekundina remarked that Lagerback already had the players on the ground and all he needed to do was to tap from the enormous talent at his disposal.

“The players are all in top European clubs and if what he said about his deep knowledge of Nigerian players was anything to go bye, then he will not have any problem leading the team to a credible outing at the World Cup.”

Ekundina said he had no quarrel over the choice of Lagerback as new Eagles coach because those who carried out the interview were men of character and pedigree.

“The decision has been taken. All we, Nigerian coaches need do is to support him so that he can succeed in South Africa. His success will be to Nigeria’s credit, that is why all patriotic Nigerians must support the new coach.

“All he needs to do is to ensure the squad is made up of players that are fit because once they are fit, they can do anything for him.”

The coach said Lagerback had enough time to prepare for the World Cup as there was still time to prepare the team for a serious campaign.
