League leaders’ Enyimba will tomorrow in Aba, attempt to hold firm to the top spot as it plays host to hard fighting Akure-based Premier League team side Sunshine Stars. The Felix Anyansi-led side this season have surprised many with its new resolve and its performance so far in the season.
The two-time winners of the CAF Champions League have chalked up a total of 30 points from 17 games and two points away from the Aba side is Kano Pillars who are equally home to Lobi Stars in today’s fixture. Sunshine, on the other hand are presently placed fourth and a win tomorrow in Aba (a difficult task) will see them move up the ladder.
Sunshine Stars two weeks ago fought so hard to earn the maximum points against Gateway in Akure. The team under the watch of coach Solomon Ogbeide are no doubt tough nuts to crack. But against a formidable team like Enyimba, the best of football is definitely in the offing.
The potency of Enyimba strikers in front of goal has greatly improved this season. With 19 goals in its kitty, the Aba millionaires appear very confident of increasing that tally against the Akure side.
“The players are properly motivated and the result is what we are seeing in the league. No team will stop us this season, we have done enough watching from the sideline, it’s time to get back to the Champions League and this season. We are confident that we will fly the nation’s flag in the CAF Champions League competitionâ€, an official of the club said.
Like Enyimba, Sunshine Stars players are equally motivated and that has seen them return good results in the league. “This is one match that we must give our best and ensure that we leave Aba with our pride intact. Enyimba is a solid side and we know what to expect. We have done our home work and we only pray for fair officiatingâ€, a Sunshine player said.
