Anambra: Elders, clergy warn politicians

By Vincent Ujumadu, Awka
ANAMBRA State elders and clergy have cautioned against turning the happiness of Anambra people to sorrow by some politicians who participated in the February 6 governorship election in the state, warning that the state would not tolerate any instability caused by such politicians and their agents.

Though most people in the state have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives for ensuring a free and fair election considered to be the best since the creation of the state, some politicians appear to be planning to organize protests against the election won by the incumbent governor, Mr. Peter Obi.

The Anambra Elders Forum, in a five point- communiqué at the end of a meeting in Awka, noted with dismay that some politicians were restoring to hiring of thugs in the name of reacting to the February 6 election to cause disaffection and chaos in the state.

Chairman of the forum, Dr. Dozie Ikedife and secretary, Professor Ben Obumselu, in a made it clear that the Elders Council would stop at nothing to contain such lawless behaviour and advised any candidate who felt dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to go through the legal process for redress.

According to the Elders, the state had suffered so much in the past as a result of political brigand by politicians which, they warned, would be no longer be tolerated.
