LAGOS—The Action Congress, AC, has hailed the ACF’s position over the statement of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, on President’s Yar’Adua ability or otherwise to meet the functions of office, in view of the illness that has taken him away for over two months now.
In a statement in Lagos yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said ACF’s position on the issue tallies with what it has always believed —that the FEC lacks patriotic and selfless people who can put the interest of the nation over and above their own narrow and self-serving interests.
AC said had FEC acted patriotically, and in accordance with Section 144 of the Constitution, the continuous drifting of the ship of state— in the absence of its Captain—would have been checked, in the interest of the good people of Nigeria.
“The framers of the Constitution apparently thought that the FEC would be made up of men and women imbued with fervour and patriotism, not feckless, fickle beings who will fail to rise to the demands of their position at such a critical time like this. Otherwise, they would not have saddled them with the responsibility enunciated in Section 144 of the Constitution,’’ the party said.
