2011: No automatic tickets for candidates – Rivers PDP

PORT HARCOURT—TO strengthen internal democracy within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party has ruled out automatic tickets  for any of its members in coming general polls.

The Rivers State chapter of the party in its communique, said the party would not tolerate any form of anti party activities from its members, adding that it was set to deal with any member that had violated party rules.

“The party will provide level playing grounds to all contestants. Only the best, popular and acceptable candidates shall be presented and elected by the party in the 2011 elections.

“Our party strongly condemns any form of indiscipline and frowns out-rightly at disobedience by members. Party will not hesitate to punish erring members in accordance with party constitution.

“We also recognises the rights of individuals to the freedom of peaceful association, formation of clubs and associations to enhance political fortune, but any of such groups which may undermine the supremacy of the party would be seriously viewed as an offence.

“The party firmly believes and promises to retain its legacy in rotation/sectional balance of political offices. This has been seen over the years as a unifying factor. Our party members, at all levels, are advise to adhere to this,” the statement said.
