…asks Reps to follow suit
By Emmanuel Aziken
Abuja— The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, has commended the Senate for its resolution urging President Umaru Yar‘Adua to handover to his deputy and called on the House of Representatives to follow suit.
The CNPP in a statement made available to Vanguard yesterday also called on the President’s minders to pay heed to the nation as it noted that reason must prevail at this critical time of the nation’s history.
The statement by the CNPP’s national publicity secretary, Mr. Osita Okechukwu read thus: “CNPP commends the Senate for coming to patriotic and democratic judgment in the resolution of the unwarranted constitutional crisis imposed by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and his handlers. We call on the House of Reps to follow suit.â€
“CNPP has maintained that it is incongruous, unpatriotic and undemocratic for President Yar’Adua and his handlers to subordinate constitutional order under personal survival.
“CNPP commends the Senate for appreciating that the power vacuum created by the absence of the C-in-C has unleashed unintended consequences on Nigerians, thereby sliding our democracy to quasi-dictatorship, rubbishing our image abroad and hindering peace, order and good governance.â€
“We had wondered on what was wrong for a president availing himself of section 145 of the constitution which in all intents and purposes is the safety-net and common ground in the midst – 143,144 and 146.
