We have Aso Rock here, Peterside

By Onochie Anibeze
“This is Aso Rock. We have Aso Rock around us.”This was the way Green Eagles media coordinator Idah Peterside described the security Angolan authorities have provided for them and other countries since Friday when Togo’s national team players were attacked in a separatist attack that left three people dead and some players injured. Togo have since pulled out of the Nations Cup following the tragedy.

“The security for us here is scaring,” Peterside continued.
“They are not allowing people to come close to us. Even in training, thousands were sent away. Angolans appear to like us and their national team are not in our group, so their people are rooting for us and we need them on match day to cheer us. But the security men are scaring to all here.

I feel that this may affect their support. What happened to Togo was unfortunate. But we are not afraid. There are armored cars around us. They are reassuring. It was fear of air disaster that made Togo decide to travel by road from their camp in Congo and they were attacked on the road. One can understand their phobia after a bad experience on air before they decided to travel by road.
