UCH builds renal transfer centre

Ibadan— The University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan has built a Renal Transplant Centre that will take care of patients with kidney-related problems.

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, Prof. Abiodun Ilesanmi, said yesterday that the centre would soon be commissioned.

“All the needed equipment are ready for installation. We are yet to finish the construction of the access road. We also need to keep the environment clean because we have to keep away all things that could cause infection,” he said.

Ilesanmi would, however, not disclose its cost, saying that UCH was still picking bills on the project.

He said in order to encourage patients to have confidence in kidney surgery at the hospital, it would perform free renal transplant surgeries for the first 10 patients. He said each surgery would cost about N10 million.

“We want to help the needy and also stimulate the rich Nigerians, so that they can always come to UCH for their treatment rather than travel abroad,” the CMD said. Ilesanmi said UCH would also embark on organ transplant surgeries.
