ABUJA—The National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS,  has denounced the botched terrorist plot by Nigerian born, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab against an American airliner, saying his terrorist inclinations are completely alien to the enterprise and character of Nigerian students.

The national student body in a statement in Abuja nevertheless, cautioned the international community against the temptation of labeling Nigerian students in the Diaspora as terrorists as it affirmed that the greater majority were diligent and peace loving.

The National President of the students’ body, Comrade Jude Imagwe in the statement also praised Farouk’s father for his fatherly concern in reporting his son’s waywardness, saying it was reflective of the abhorrence for violence by many Nigerian parents.

Promising the determination of the student body to cooperate with all authorities in uprooting the roots of terrorism everywhere, the statement read:

“NANS hereby promises to maintain a strong relationship in solidarity with the United States and all responsible, loving nations in the international community in the fight against global terrorism.”
