Rep laments EGTL killings

By Daniel Gumm
WARRI—MEMBER representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, has expressed sadness over the media reported killings within the project site of the Escravos-Gas-To-Liquid (EGTL) Plant, Ugborodo which is situated along the Escravos River.

Reacting to the reported killings, Reyenieju, in whose constituency the Ugborodo community is located, expressed utter dismay and surprise on how mere workers’ protests could take such a dimension and consequent bloodletting, and even reported multiple death.

The lawmaker said  it was most disheartening and “unfortunate that such gruesome incident could occur at this time, moreso that all efforts are being put in place to put behind our people, our recent history of militancy.”

He warned against excessive use of force by security personnel guarding the project, and called on the relevant military authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that all those involved in the killings were brought to book.

Expressing his condolences to the families of the bereaved, the lawmaker assured his constituency that as soon as he was in possession of details of the reported incidents, he would take the necessary steps within the confines of parliamentary dictates.
