Rebrand Angola, Kalu urges Eagles

Beginning with victory over Egypt today, Pillar of Sports Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu says the misfortune called Angola must be erased by the Eagles.

Kalu’s charge comes amidst  a litany of football woes foisted on his country by the oil rich former frontline nation whose independence was facilitated by Nigeria.

“The best New Year gift the Eagles will give us is to win the Nations Cup in Angola, the nation that stopped them from a fourth consecutive World Cup appearance. Nigeria also lost the 2010 hosting right to the same Angola.”Kalu said.

The former Abia state governor who is presently in Onitsha with Anambra Amazon Mrs Uche Ekwunife drove past the family house of legendary keeper Emmanuel Oguejiofor Okala still talking Angola.

“Okala’s first international red card in Angola during a CAF Champion’s League game between Rangers and Primerio d’Agosto in 1982. The match ended 1-1.Another Angolan team Petro Atletico came to Aba  in 2004 to force Enyimba to a draw. The first time Enyimba failed to win an international match at home”, he stated.

Kalu did not forget Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji who died on the day an Angolan player named Jesus bagged a red card from Togolese referee Mawukpona Hounnake-Kouassi at the National Stadium Lagos.

It was against the Palencas Negras that Okwaraji slumped and died in the field of play on August 12 1989. What an irony that the day we saw Jesus” at the national stadiumwas also the day five fans died only for the stadium to be banned by FIFA”, the ex- governor pointed out.

Kalu advised Amodu to introduce aggression and collective marking. “In modern soccer nobody gives you space anymore. .Marking is tight, so if Eagles do not play collectively with a blistering  pace, they could run into problem.”
