Police arrest suspected robber in army uniform

POLICE in Ondo State have arrested an armed robbery suspect dressed in a fake Army camouflage with AK 47rifle after an operation.

Mobile policemen attached to Asejire pin down point along Ore Expressway intercepted the Honda car marked HP491EKY with two occupants who were coming from a robbery operation.

The suspect claimed he was attached to 81 Battalion Ikeja Lagos when he was accosted.

Police sources said the suspect who corked his riffle fired sporadically at the mobile policemen who flagged them down.

But they were pursued after which they ran into the bush and after hours of combing the bush with the assistance of vigilante men in the area only one of the suspects was arrested.

Some live ammunition, native bullet proof jacket, charms, ATM cards, smart cards of Shell Petroleum Company, a Nigeria Army Identity cards and one UBA cheque bearing N24,000 were recovered from the arrested suspect.

Police Image Maker in the state, Aremu Adeniran said information revealed that the AK47 riffle recovered from the suspects was snatched from one Inspector Macauley Igbokwu of the Federal Highway Patrol in Ogun State by two men in uniform.

Adeniran who said the Honda car was snatched from a woman in Lagos State added that the suspect was a fake military man and a confirmed armed robber.

The Image Maker said another dare devil armed robber, has been arrested after his gang robbed a luxury bus along Ore.

According to him, the driver of Agbonfo Transport stormed the Ore Police Station with some passengers’ that they ran into some armed robbers along the Ore Expressway.

He pointed out that they were robbed of their money and valuables.

Adeniran added that the combined team of policemen and patrol team from Ore Divisional police were dispatched to the scene and on sighting the Police they ran into the bush.

After a thorough search, the suspect was arrested and he confessed committing the crime with seven others.

Items recovered according to the Image Maker,include the sum of N9,000, wrist watches, mobile sets and the transport line tickets amongst others.
