MSM dissociates self from stakeholders’ meeting

By Laja Thomas

LAGOS—The National Secretariat of the Mega Summit Movement has dissociated itself from the supposedly joint stakeholders meeting of Mega Summit Movement, MSM, and the National Democratic Movement, NDM, scheduled to take place in Abuja this weekend.

In a statement by Mallam Hamisu Turaki, Director, Media and Publicity, Dare Falade, Mobilisation, and Olusegun Mayegun, Director of Planning and Strategy of the Movement respectively, said in Lagos yesterday that the National Secretariat of the Mega Summit Movement stands as the conscience of the MSM and acts in line with the primary objectives of the organisation in order to guarantee the process and its survival.

According to the movement, “the Secretariat would be abandoning its responsibility if it does not expose the perfidy which the promoters of the National Democratic Movement, NDM, are attempting to unleash and impose on the institutionality  of the Mega Summit Movement and by extension the dream of the Nigerian people for a truly progressive and democratic platform, adding that, “the final leg of this assault on the principle of transparency and internal democracy to which we are committed is about to be orchestrated in the so-called MSM/NDM joint stakeholders meeting slated for January 30 and 31, 2010 in Abuja.”

Continuing, it said, “the supposedly joint meeting of MSM and NDM stakeholders is purely a smokescreen for another selfish and time serving political arrangement vain-gloriously pursued by elements within the presidential campaign outfits of Retired General Muhammadu Buhari and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
