Kaduna Gov tackles poverty

By Emeka Mamah

Kaduna — Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo of Kaduna State has said that his government is poised to arrest the poverty level of the people and increase their spending capacity.

Sambo said that 800,000 people in the state needed one form of assistance or the other towards self-reliance, pointing out that this was why the government provi-ded funds through some micro-finance banks, MFBs for onward disbursement to them.

According to Sambo, the funds so disbursed will enable them engage mean-ingfully in petty trading and other small businesses.

He spoke at Kagoro during their annual cultural festival, weekend.

He said, “I wish to use this medium to thank Almighty God for sparing our lives to witness the beginning of a
New Year; a year full of promises, hopes and expec-tations.

“The year 2009 has been very eventful, but also, it is the year we had cause to prepare towards the tackling of the realities of the global economic meltdown and how to ensure the full implemen-tation of our approved appropriations. Therefore,  we can touch the lives of the people of the state which we had successfully done but not without sacrifices.”
