Imo moves to tackle water scarcity

OWERRI—Irked by the lack of potable water in Orlu and its adjoining communities, Imo State Government says it has taken up the problems associated with the Orlu Regional Water Scheme with the Federal Government.

The Commissioner for Public Utilities and Rural Development, Mr. Ralph Nwosu, announced this at Eziali Mgbidi, Oru West Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Nwosu hinted that Governor Ikedi Ohakim had proposed either taking the entire water scheme as a single package or dividing the scheme into mini-schemes to be executed in stages, to the Federal Government.

He assured the people of Orlu zone that by the time the state was through with the Federal Government in the discussion, the Orlu Regional Water Scheme would be a reality.

The Commissioner enjoined the citizens to exercise patience with the state government, even as he assured that concerted efforts were being made to provide utilities for their comfort.
