Fake Customs Comptroller in EFCC net over N45m scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a fake  Comptroller of Customs who heads a syndicate of 8 men that specializes in defrauding Nigerians of millions of naira under the guise of selling them containers seized by the customs Service.
The arrowhead of the fraudsters, Alhaji Auwalu Ibrahim alias Koki Comptroller Kangiwa, was arrested in Lagos on January 3, 2010 after two years of intensive search for him by EFCC operatives.

Head of Media and Publicity of the agency, Mr Femi Babafemi while briefing journalists in Abuja yesterday  further disclosed that “the syndicate to date  had defrauded through false pretence, conspiracy and impersonation, victims mostly businessmen in Kano to the tune of N45million  in four deals being investigated by our Kano office.”

Koki assumed the personality of  the top custom officer, Comptroller Hussani Suleiman Kangiwa of Federal Operations Unit C based in Owerri, Imo state and used his false identity in active collaboration with his gang members who also dress in customs uniforms lured their victims into Lagos in order to buy containers of goods being auctioned by the Customs Service.
