Chukwu, a member of the 1980 Nations Cup winning squad told Saturday Vanguard Sports that he expects the team to do well and  lift the trophy for the country, adding that to him, lifting the trophy will serve as a New Year gift for the nation as well as restore confidence in every Nigerian.

“Like every Nigerian, I would want the team to go all out and win the Cup for us. With the caliber of players we have in the team,  much is expected from them. Having selected a reliable team, I believe Amodu has big confidence in the players and we need to support him and hope for the best,” he said.

Reacting on the replacement of the Esperance of Tunisia striker for the Olympic silver medalist  Chinedu Obasi, the former Super Eagles coach said it is the coach’s decision and he alone knows why.

“The reason is best known to him, he is the one  wearing the shoe and should know where it pinches,” he said.
When asked about his impression about Amodu, he said as a coach  Amodu has fulfilled his mission having qualified the country for the World Cup a second time.
