By Austin Ogwuda
ASABA—TRAGEDY struck at Ibusa, Oshimili North local government area of Delta State, weekend,  when a policeman said to be drunk during a marriage in the town shot and killed a guest instantly.
The cop was promptly arrested and is currently in police custody, according to the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Charles Muka.

An eyewitnesse said the policeman accompanied one of the guests to the marriage ceremony all the way from Rivers State and fell into stupor after consuming several bottles of beer.

“Due to the state of his drunkenness, the policeman just started shooting sporadically into the air and incidentally, the victim, a 30-year-old man was killed,” said the witness.

Similar incidents of policemen killing guests after getting drunk at social gatherings have in the past been recorded both in Asaba and at Okpanam.

Angered by such ugly development, PPRO Muka cautioned police officers, saying “policemen should desist from unprofessional acts and abide by professional ways of handling arms”.
