Bankole, curse to Ogun State —Gov Daniel

By Kolade Larewaju

GOVERNOR Olugbenga Daniel of Ogun State yesterday reviewed  the crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,  in the state and declared that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole was a curse to the state.

He also dismissed  former Minister of State for Finance, Alhaji  Jubril Martins Kuye as selfish.
Daniel who spoke at the inauguration of the new Chairman of the Elders Forum of the Party, Chief Okanlawon Soboyede  in Abeokuta blamed some other leaders including Chief Sule Onabiyi for the crisis rocking the party saying that they were out to destroy the party and move to another.

He said  the signal he was getting about the activities of the people was “scary”.

His words; “Dimeji Bankole as Speaker has been a curse to Ogun State. He may have benefitted his family, his pocket and his father, but he has been a curse to the State and the PDP in the state.

“I do not want anybody to have any misgivings about where I stand on this issue. He was one of the people I went out of my way to develop as a young man. I went all round to plead his case when he became the Speaker, because the seat was zoned to Osun and we had given the National Vice Chairman to Ogun.

“I had to go and plead with my brother Governor in Osun to say we were not working against their state but that the thing has been given to us, so we asked Chief Soboyede who was tipped for the Vice Chairman to step down, and I pleaded with Governor Oyinlola to please accept him.

“All the programmes being slated for Ogun State are been scuttled by our people in Abuja. Ministers tell me that there are people in Ogun State that were saying that things should not be brought to Ogun. They are the people working against our getting the bond. I don’t want anybody to be under any illusion about the current situation in Ogun State”

Daniel who was apparently very angry spoke about the role of Senator Jubril Martins Kuye in the crisis saying “Kuye does not love the state; he loves his own pocket and insisted that Sarafa [former Minister of Mines] must be Governor.

“For four years, Sarafa was my SSG during which period I protected him, stood by him and assisted him. How can he now turn round to say they love Egbaland? I schooled in Egba and drank the water from Ogun River, they do not love Egba more than I do.

“The challenge of Dimeji is the challenge of his father. We have spoken to people to talk to his father, but because of greed and their pockets, they have been unable to do it. I am the Governor and if people cannot tell you the truth and I cannot tell you, then we are wasting our time.

“The signal I have is scary. The ambition is to destroy the party and leave. I am aware of the meetings and I know those who they are meeting with. Do not say that anybody because of his big name cannot go to Action Congress. They are not working for PDP, please do not be deceived.

“We are now in the election year, those who want to stay should stand firm and those who want to leave can do so. We lack the capacity to say the truth and please nobody should tell you nonsense, Baba Obasanjo is with us. I have right to quarrel with Obasanjo, it is not their business and when I settle with him, it is not their business”

Governor Daniel who saw a member of the OPIC Board, Captain Borokini at the meeting which Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State attended briefly, ordered him out of the venue alleging that he had been working against the party and has refused to apologise.

In respect of the removed  Chairman of the Elders Forum, Chief Sule Onabiyi, Daniel said  the man was romancing the opposition saying that during the wedding of one of Chief Onabiyi’s children,  he was not invited and that the Chairman of the party, Chief Joju Fadairo who he sent with a present was not even offered a chair.

“The Chairman of the party was disgraced publicly”, he declared;

He then directed the Secretary to the State Government to compile the list of people holding positions “and destroying the party” so that they can be dropped from their positions.

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to Speaker Bankole on  media, Mr. Ebhomuana Musa, said last night, that his boss would not join issues, with the governor of Ogun State who “seems to be having problem with everybody.”
He said if the governor had any genuine complaint he should table it with the  national leadership of the party for resolution.
