600 Deltans evacuated from Jos

By Austin Ogwuda
ASABA—Delta State government has evacuated 600 residents of Delta State origin from Jos to Asaba, following the bloody crisis going on in the city.
Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief Agency (SERA), Mr. Peter Nkenchor, told Vanguard on phone yesterday that 200 people were evacuated last Tuesday, while 400 others were in the process of being moved out of the troubled city.

“As we speak, we are on our way to Jos, following the governor’s directive to evacuate them,” Nkenchor said.
When a similar mayhem occurred last year, 182 students of Delta State origin studying at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) were successfully evacuated from Jos.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who gave the directive for the evacuation, said there had been distress calls from Delta State students in Jos, including those in the law school.
