Since the smugglers and their fake producer counterparparts are threatening to take the African market away from genuine product manufacturers, world household electronics and mobile phone manufacturers Samsung and Mehdi Global Services (MGS) Limited,  are thinking of a way to fight back.

Recently, they opened an ultra modern showroom in Ikeja, Lagos, with aim of giving 10 per cent lower prices than any other Samsung product  bought elsewhere in West Africa.

Managing  director of MGS Mr Adnan Mehdi, said that opening the shop in Lagos, was in recognition that Nigeria remained investors’ destination as  the fastest growing emerging market in  Africa.

He however admitted that  the impact of smugglers might hamper the faster growth of  the sector unless checks and balances of activities of grey  marketers were put in place.  Mehdi explained that Nigeria remained exciting to many foreign investors and that was why despite the so-called economic meltdown, many of them still wanted to come to Nigeria to do business.

According to him, the showroom at Ikeja which is a franchise of Samsung, would showcase a wide range of Samsung products even as it would provide warranty on all Samsung products purchased from there and over 100 others that would be opened across the country in the next few months.

“We have confidence in the Nigerian economy and the company was still investing in Nigeria despite the challenges because of the potential of the
Nigerian market and the belief Samsung had in the market.”

Mehdi added that the products of open markets did not attract warranty conditions, and as such, buyers were exposed to huge risk, adding that his company wanted to make a difference in the market by offering peace of mind warranty on all products.

His advise was that people who wanted to enjoy support services from Samsung after the purchase of a product, should investigate on the source of the product they were buying, as this would go a long way in making them eligible for possible after sales services at MGS.

For him, Samsung products through MGS were cheaper by 10 per cent, stressing that various Samsung products had aggressively penetrated the Nigerian market because of its largeness, and a household name among users.
Mehdi said that the other challenges affecting business in Nigeria, remained the issue of adequate power generation, infrastructural decays and the lack of some social amenities, stressing that if all these could be put in place, the economy would be better for it.

He urged customers to patronise the right channels for the purchase of their various Samsung products whether phones, television sets, DVDs among other products, stressing that whatever products that was bought from them would be accented to and replaced if it could not be fixed.

He warned that buyers from the open market would be exposed to any kind of problem which they at Samsung might not guarantee.
