Confirming the development also, the demining group’s Chief of Media/Information, Dr. Emeka Uhuegbu, explained that the stockpile of explosives would be destroyed as originally planned, adding that a date has been picked for the destruction of the bombs.

“We have been reached by Governor Ikedi Ohakim on this issue and the blast-off will definitely take place before the Christmas. We are pleased that the Governor is worried about the safety of the people and has come out boldly to assist in this crusade to make the land safe for all to use,” Uhuegbu said.
Dr. Uhuegbu further said that “consequent upon a timely intervention by the  leaders of the South East and South South geo-political zone, the humanitarian demining exercise will continue to a conclusive end.

He, however, lamented that “the Ministry of Defence has not shown any interest in fulfilling its obligation towards the life saving exercise.”
