Police foil robbery, kill three

IBADAN—THREE   suspected robbers have been killed in different robbery attacks in Oke-Ogun areas of Oyo State when they engaged the police in a gun duel.

This came as the State Police Command foiled another attempt by an eight-man robbery squad when they wanted to rob a first generation bank in Ibadan on Monday.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olabisi Okuwobi while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, the suspects died after sustaining gunshot injuries in Ado Awaye and Iseyin, Oke Ogun area of the state.

On the foiled bank robbery, she said, “at about 11am, the Command was informed that some robbers had invaded the bank at Monatan, Ibadan. And we rose up to the challenge”.

“When we got there, the robbers fled the bank premises, but our men went after them into a nearby bush and they recovered a fully-loaded cut-to-size double-barrel gun. And through investigation, one of the robbers was caught where he was hiding”, she narrated.

When interviewed by Vanguard, the suspected robber, Williams Atitison, 24, said he was inside the vehicle waiting for his partners who were inside the bank performing operation when he heard a strange gunshot and police siren.
