ABUJA—Prominent Senator of the South East, Senator Annie Okonkwo from Anambra Central, has called on the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the governors of the zone as the chief security officers in their state, to rise to the challenge of rampant kidnappings, armed robberies, and wicked assassins that prowl the states unimpeded.
He also tasked all the security agencies in Nigeria to evolve strategy to restore security confidence to the South Easterners as they prepare to travel back home for the Christmas and New Year celebration.
Senator Okonkwo made this call in Abuja while receiving a delegation of eminent Igbo sons resident in there.
He noted that, it has become a matter for grave national concern, that a hitherto adventurous race as the Igbo, are deprived of the unique and special joy the home coming for Christmas and New Year offers, because of scary multiple threats to their lives.
The Senator thereby charged the citizens of the zone in Nigeria and in the Diaspora not to succumb to the, “blackmail of this condemnable atrocities,”but urged them to sustain courage in adversity, and return home en masse to be part of a transformative development in their communities.
Senator Okonkwo  emphasised that the cultural bonding which these festivities offer his people “bear direct impetus to developmental initiatives in the region.”
