NEMA donates relief materials to community

By  Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—THE National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has presented relief materials worth millions of naira to Abala community in Obingwa council area of Abia state.

Abala community was attacked and sacked by the Abia State police command early this year for allegedly harbouring criminals.

The presentation was in response made to the agency through Senator Eninnaya Abiribe representing them in the National Assembly about six months ago.

Police had accused the community of harbouring, aiding and abetting criminals who the police accuse of taking the place as an operational base. Based on this allegation, the police were said to have invaded the community, destroyed and sacked the entire community.

The action rendered many families homeless, some of whom took refuge in neighbouring communities.

In response to the save our soul call, the South East zone of the agency last week donated the relief materials to cushion the suffering of the villagers.

The materials were presented by Dr. Onimode Bamidele, the head of Enugu zone of the agency. 16 of the 19 items requested by the community were supplied while the remaining three items are expected to be provided before the year runs out.
