Mopol opens fire, kills Imo deputy Gov’s orderly

By Kingsley Omonobi

ABUJA—In what could be described as a bizarre Christmas shocker, the family of the deputy governor of Imo State, Mrs. Ada Okwuonu are mourning the killing of one of the Police Orderlies attached to the deputy governor following a misunderstanding between the orderly and another Police escort in the deputy governors’ security team.

Sources at Police headquarters told Vanguard that the incident occurred in Owerri when the husband of the deputy governor, Mr. Okwuonu, who had a function in the city went to the venue accompanied by the orderly, a MOPOL officer (names with-held) and another MOPOL officer, the driver (names withheld).

On getting to the venue of the function, the husband of the deputy governor left the police officers outside and according to sources they were entertained with food and drinks. Haven taken substantial amount of liquor, one of the Mobile Police officers was said to have made an insulting remark on his colleague which resulted in heated argument.

Before people sitting around the venue of the function could fathom what was going on, the mobile police officer, (driver), seized his AK 47 rifle and opened fire on his colleague (orderly) at close range and pumped several bullets into him.

A Police officer, who confirmed the incident under condition of anonymity, said the Police officer emptied the whole magazine on his colleague as if he was possessed and that he must have acted under the influence of booze.

Vanguard gathered that the officer in question has already been arrested and is under detention at the Imo State Police Command where he would be subjected to orderly room trial.
