Ex-Minister calls for Yar’Adua’s resignation

By Isiaka  Oyibo

Kogi — AS anxieties Continues to  grips Nigerians over the health condition of President Umaru Yar’Adua and his  ability to perform the responsibilities of his office, former Minister for National Planning, Chief Silas Daniyan, has added his voice to calls for his immediate resignation or better still hand over the baton of governance to his vice, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as provided for in the constitution.

Daniyan who made the call yesterday in an interview with Vanguard at  Mopa said it was necessary for the president to throw in the towel now so he could take care of his failing health.

His words: “It is my candid opinion that if Mr President feels that he can no longer cling to power, I think the best thing for him to do is to throw in the towel.

“Sometimes last month, I was in London when the prime minister of that country went to have a surgery in one of his eyes, it did not last for more than 30 minutes before they started calling for his resignation.

“I do not think there is any American or British prime minister that would have the kind of ailment people said the president had and would not resign, but I would also not be surprise because it is only here in Africa that a person would get to an office and will rather prefer to remain and die there,” Daniyan who is the Ojomo of Mopa said.
