By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Bishop of the Diocese of Egbu, Anglican Communion, Professor Emmanuel Iheagwam, has challenged Nigerian leaders and the citizenry to imbibe the great lesson of the humility of Jesus Christ.

Professor Iheagwam, spoke at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Egbu, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, during a Christman special service.

Iheagwam also called on the citizens to properly investigate and verify every piece of information passed on to them instead of gossiping about it or believing in rumours.

He stressed that gossips and rumours have destroyed many good efforts of those in authority, whether in the church or society.

Making particular reference to the Bible, the Anglican cleric said that the shepherds, who were told about the birth of Jesus Christ, although believed the message still went ahead to verify the truth of the message.

“Although the shepherds, who were told about the birth of Christ believed the message, yet they preferred to test the veracity of the message instead of just going to town with what they heard,” Iheagwam said.

The Anglican cleric wondered “if God would find any Virgin Mary among Nigerian girls of this day and age, looking at the happenings in the country today.”
