DP’s gun aquisition allegation against Oshiomhole laughable – AC

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—Action Congress (AC) in Edo State has described as ludicrous and laughable the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor Adams Oshiomhole had acquired AK47 guns and machetes to unleash mayhem on PDP members in future elections in the state.
The PDP in the state had petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danlami Yar’Adua, urging him to investigate the allegation, after they alleged that the governor disclosed this to chairmen of local government councils at a meeting with them last week.

But a chieftain of AC and Director of Public Affairs to the state government, Mr. Greg Ogiogwa, in a reaction in Benin yesterday, asserted that “we know the usual tactics of the PDP is to use AK 47 and other types of guns to terrorize people during elections.

“What they are probably doing now is to set a scenario where they will go and hire thugs and mercenaries and then give them AK47 and cutlasses and then claim that it was the Comrade governor and then cause mayhem.

“We have taken cognizance of their strategy, but I tell you it will fail. What they are doing is called counter duplicity, where you lie that somebody is doing some thing that you are about to do to that person.

“We know that strategy because some of us were in the PDP and we know all those things. So we are ready for it, we have already seen the strategy coming.”
Ogiogwa added that “besides, the PDP in Edo State is not a legitimate opposition.

They are basically an organization of few people who are sitting down together and use the name PDP.

“The emergence of that executive did not follow due process. And we are also aware that the PDP is claiming that local government chairmen are being coerced to join the AC, that is not true. The truth is that the PDP has failed at the grass root level.”

“The reason the local government chairmen, under the PDP failed, was because they were tied to the apron strings of the godfathers, they had to deliver to the godfathers and because of that they could not deliver to the people.

“But under the Comrade governor, they found liberation, they found out that they do not need to deliver to anybody but the people. And that is why majority of us left the PDP,” he declared.
