By Peter Duru

MAKURDI — The Benue State Government has ordered the immediate sack of the rector of the state-owned College of Advanced and Professional Studies, CAPS, Makurdi, Mrs. Magdalene Damkor Ikpa, alongside other management staff of the institution.

The state government took the decision, Tuesday, at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Gabriel Suswam.

Briefing newsmen on decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr. Bem Melladu, said the decision of the government to fire the management staff of the institution was premised on a critical appraisal of the report of the Administrative Panel of Inquiry into the crisis that has engulfed the institution over the years since Mrs. Ikpa assumed office as the rector of the college.

According to the commissioner, the sacked management has been replaced by the Head of Department Mass Communication, Benue State University, Dr. Tyotom Kerku, who assumes the position of a sole administrator of the college.

The state government further directed that all union activities on campus should remain suspended pending the appointment of a substantive rector and a new management.

The commissioner also directed the former rector and members of the former management to report without delay to the Ministry of Education for further directive.

In the same vein, the State Executive Council also terminated the lease agreement between the state government and Yelwata Trading Company Ltd in respect of Taraku Oil Mills.
