The Nigerian Army and its Naval counterpart, yesterday released the promotion of their senior officers with the Army Council approving the elevation of eight Major Generals and 49 Brigadier Generals and the Navy Council approving the elevation of 40 Commodores (one-star Generals), 85 Captains and 44 Commanders.
For the senior officers of the rank of Rear Admirals (2-star Generals) for the Navy, Vanguard gathered that about five senior officers are in running for elevation but that the need to ensure merit, position availability and national spread, was responsible for the delay in releasing their promotion.
The new Major Generals for the Army are Major General Emeka Onwuamaegbu, one time Director of Army Public Relations and presently Commandant of the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Center, Jaji; Major General J. O. Shoboiki, one time Guards Brigade Commander; Major General A. T. Umaru, Director of Military Intelligence; Major General C. O. Omoregie, Commander, 31 Artillery Brigade; Major General A. B. Maitama, Commander, Nigeria Army Infantry Corps; Major General Y. D. Pyeng, Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army, Major General A. A. Olaniyi and Major General S. A. Rilwanu.
For the Navy, the newly promoted Commodores include Commodore Henry Babalola, one time Director of Naval Information; Commodore J. O Manujibeya, Commodore A. O. Ayuba, Commodore H. E. Egbe, Commodore S. E. Ogoigbe, and Commodore S. O. Ojediran, among others.
