APMT wins CRAN award, fetes destitutes

WORLD’s leading terminal operating company and operator of the Apapa Container Terminal, APM Terminals Apapa Limited has won the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) Award as the Best Security Compliant Terminal in Nigeria just as the firm in keeping with the tradition of caring for the less privileged in the society on Monday visited the Beth Torrey Home in Ajegunle, Lagos to celebrate the yuletide season with the children of the home.

Senior Manager, Human Resources of APM Terminals Apapa, Mr. Ademola Bolarinde, who led other APM Terminals Staff including some expatriates to the Home said that the visit was in line with APMT’s Corporate Social Responsibility of identifying with the needs in its areas of operation and contributing to addressing such needs.

“We are a caring company and we identify with the needy and the less privileged in the society and that is why we have come here to donate items to the home and also to celebrate Christmas with the children,” Bolarinde stated.

Various food items and money were donated by APM Terminals to the Home.
Matron of the Beth Torrey Home, Mrs. Veronica Obi expressed appreciation to APM Terminals for the visit and charged other corporate organisations to take a cue from the APM Terminals’ example.

She said that the Home was established to take care of people who have no relatives or siblings to look after them.
“Orphans, destitutes, mentally challenged persons and children all are cared for here,” the matron disclosed.

It would be recalled that APM Terminals recently completed the renovation of Randle Secondary School Apapa at the cost of N10 million as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Meanwhile, Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria has commended APM Terminals for its exemplary security measures at the ports; bestowing on the company the Best Security Compliant Terminal in Nigeria.
The award was received on behalf of the company by its Media Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, at the 2009 CRAN Awards and Lecture held at the Police Officers Mess, GRA Ikeja penultimate Tuesday.
