2010: PPA vows to resist imposition of candidate

By Anayo Okoli

ABUJA— Ahead of the February 6, 2010 governorship election in Anambra State, the Peoples Progress Alliance (PPA), yesterday issued a stern warning to those plotting to impose a candidate on the state, to be ready for the worse, as people are combat ready to put up strong resistance against such fraudulent manipulation, this time.

National Chairman, PPA, Mr. Larry Esin, who gave the warning while speaking with Vanguard at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, said people are now well informed ever than before on the activities of these politicians, who have lost relevance but still wanted to force themselves or cronies on the people.

“We are the only political party today that is campaigning in Anambra. Go to Anambra, our candidate has gone to all wards to campaign. I spoke to them this morning (yesterday), they have about two-three local government areas to go. We are working in Anambra, we are present in the state.”

On the possibility of the ruling party writing the election results outside the state, he said, “we cannot accept it. The country is at a level where the awareness of the people is high. And the suffering of the ordinary Nigerian can now be linked to the imposition of public officers on the people.

“The suffering of the people can directly be linked to the fact that people have not had a say in who governs them. And if Anambra State is going to be a test case for 2011, so be it. Maybe, we should go to EU or Addis Ababa to write the result sheets of Anambra State elections but PDP will not rig Anambra and get away with it, it can’t happen,” he said.
