Urhobo youths group opposes imposition of leaders

By Emma Arubi

WARRI — Concerned Urhobo Youths (CUY) has faulted alleged moves by some persons in Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) to impose certain individuals as leaders of the Ighele (Youths) Wing of UPU.

In a statement signed by its president, Mr. Oviri Oguori and Secretary, Comrade Joshua Omafuaire, the group faulted claims that one of the presidential hopefuls of the youth wing, Mr. Jolly Ememu Ogbe, is an Itsekiri man.

Clarifying the issue of Mr. Ogbe’s parentage, the statement said, “Mr. Ogbe is paternally from Opete in Udu and maternally from Ekpan in Uvwie Council. That his mother got married to an Itsekiri man after the demise of his father does not make him an Itsekiri.” It urged the leadership of UPU to verify the facts.
