By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police has foiled an attempt by a gang of dare devil armed robbers to snatch the salary of Adapalm workers, killing one of the suspects in the process.

Confirming the development at a press briefing in Owerri,  the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aloy Okorie, said that the robbers got information on the planned movement of the money and made serious moves to snatch it.

“When the Command got information about the evil plot, we quickly mobilized a crack team and they gallantly forestalled the plot of the hoodlums. One of the robbers was shot dead by my men, while the remaining two bolted away with bullet wounds”, Okorie said.

The Imo State police boss further explained that the money was loaded into another vehicle instead of the Company’s vehicle, which the criminals thought was conveying the money.

“The hoodlums shot and shattered the rear windscreen of the vehicle. The police officers, who had been placed on  alert, rescued the occupants of the vehicle and gunned down one of the robbers identified as Matthew Oriaku alias Madam,” Okorie said.

The CP said that Oriaku had before his tragic end, been a regular visitor to the police cell, adding that the other two escaped with the help of a standby motorcycle.

Expressing optimism that the fleeing robbers would be apprehended in no distant time, the Imo State police boss also assured the citizens of adequate security, especially during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

“This Command will carry the war against crime to the abode of the criminals. We will not give them any opportunity to operate in this state. It will be in their interest to relocate to other states or change their way of life,” Okorie said.
