Former Ondo govs laud Mimiko

FOUR erstwhile governors of Ondo State weekend lauded Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s effort at repositioning the state to an enviable status and enable it takes its pride of place in the country.

The governors included, Brigadier Ekundayo Opaleye (rtd), Rear Admiral Abiodun Olukoya (rtd), Chief Bamidele Olumilua and Group Captain David Itah Ikpeme.

They all commended the governor during the launch of the new logo for the Sunshine State.

They urged the governor to keep his promise on the day of his inauguration that he would work for the people.

Brigadier Ekundayo Opaleye (rtd), noted that from what he had heard and seen “change had actually come to the state”.

According to him, “Change is the only permanent thing. We have seen a change and the Sun will continue to shine in the state’’.

Opaleye while wishing the governor and the people of the state well promised that all the governors before him would continue to co-operate with him.

At the colourful ceremony, another governor, Rear Admiral Abiodun Olukoya (rtd), said the people did not know the meaning when they said Ondo State is a Sunshine State .

Commending the past governors of the state, Olukoya said ‘‘Mimiko has got it right, Ondo State has got it right and I am wondering whether today is my birthday’’.

Olukoya asked the people of the state to support Mimiko in its determination to work for them.

The first governor of the state, Group Captain David Itah Ikpeme (rtd), said he was happy when he heard Mimiko saying he wanted to work for the people urging him not to disappoint the people who were expecting so much from him.

‘‘When we work there will be result. I am happy that the governor had promised to work and the logo itself is emphasizing hard work so let us join hands with the governor for us to see the result. You don’t have a good leader when you don’t have a good follower’’, he said.

Also speaking, the former civilian governor of the state, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua said, Mimiko is a creative person and the people have not seen anything yet.

Dr Mimiko served as the Commissioner for Health under Olumilua.

Olumilua urged the people to co-operate with him and avoid saying bad things about him but “let us join hands with him in the task of moving the state forward’’.

Governor Mimiko while speaking said it was the determination of his administration to ensure that the state takes its pride of place that made it to formulate people oriented programes which had at its core a well out plan at enriching the lives of the people and empowering them for to reach for the greatness that lie within them.

He said the “single distinguishing feature of the administration from the previous ones has been the emphasis on masses- centered and grassroots community projects that enable bottom-up development to be the catalyst for growth in the state.

THE information Commissioner Ranti Akerele said that the new logo is to rebranding the state for greater heights.
