Five die in Lagos auto crashes

Five persons including a Police Inspector, weekend, lost their lives in separate auto crashes in Lagos, while the fate of two others still hangs in the balance as doctors are battling to save their lives.

A breakdown of the accidents which happened same day, according to  the Lagos State Police Command’s record, showed that the incident which claimed the Police  Inspector’s life occurred first, at about 6.30 a.m. on Saturday.

A commercial Volkswagen LT 28 bus with number plate XL 824 JJJ, reportedly ran over the Inspector, a mobile policeman attached to MOPOL 20, at Iyana Ipaja under bridge, along the Abeokuta expressway, in the process of crossing the road. The Mobile police whose identity was given as Inspector David Ndez died on the spot.

Four hours later, a Hiace bus driven by one Adeniran Olu of Association Avenue, Ikotun, a Lagos suburb, ran over a female pedestrian at Olorunla bus-stop along Igando road. The victim, identified as Sikira Oladapo, reportedly gave up the ghost moments after being rushed to the Alimosho General Hospital.

The command’s record also showed that at the same time, a motorcyclist and his two passengers were crushed by an Infinity four-wheel drive with  number plate KC 43 KJA along Ijegun-Ikotun road. The motorcyclist was said to have died on the spot while doctors at an undisclosed private hospital around the area were said to be battling to save the lives of the passengers. Similar accidents which claimed the lives of two persons also occurred at separate times along Iba-Igando road and Mile-Two.

The command’s boss, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo,  according to his Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, expressed worry over the frequency and magnitude of losses associated with the incidents.

Meanwhile, the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the public mortuaries by  policemen from the respective divisions.
