ABUJA—THE  Federal Government has approved the immediate release of N21 billion to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), agency to execute crucial projects in 31 states.

The Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, who addressed State House Correspondents at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC), meeting said the approval is to partly fund 166 development projects under the 2009 MDGs programme.

The amount represents government’s counterpart contribution for the projects which focus on provision of water, classrooms, healthcare centres and others in the states. The 31 states affected qualified out of the 36 that applied.

Also approved was N438.55 million for the extension of consultancy services cost for MDGs Quick-Win projects.
Presidential Adviser on MDG, Amina Ibrahim, explained that the extension of the consultancy services was due to unforeseen circumstances that delayed the early completion of projects.
