FAAN records increase in aircraft, passenger traffic

Passengers and aircraft traffic at the 21 nation’s airports have recorded an increase in the first and second quarter of this year.

According to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the growth recorded is significant when compare with that of 2008.

‘The latest figure which covers the period between January  and June 2009 showed 17.2 percent growth as against the same period in 2008.

Statistics showed that passenger traffic figure from the 21 airport stands at 5,777,598 as against 4,930,509 of last year. Air traffic figure also showed an increase of 12.3 per cent growth rising to 107,320 in the same period under review as against 95,575 recorded last year.

On the domestic route, the airport record a passenger traffic figure of 4,278,081 as against 3,592,725 earlier reported .

The aircraft traffic figure on the domestic route for the first and second quarter of 2009 also showed a consideration growth of 16.3 per cent, rising to 92,369 movement  compares with 79,434 movement record in the same period of 2008.

The international passenger traffic figure also showed that there was a definite growth during the same period with an increase of 12.1 per cent compared to last year.
