Don’t destabilise Edo, Oshiomhole warns Anenih

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has warned the former Chairman, Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Anthony Anenih, to desist from acts capable of destabilizing the state.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media Affairs, Mr Tony Iyare, the governor, who was angry by the instruction handed over to some local government vice chairmen, whose  chairmen decamped to the Action Congress (AC), by Chief Anenih to seize control of their councils,  said “we expect Anenih to understand the implication of that action.”

Reacting to a meeting of PDP chiefs held last weekend at Polaris Hotel, Afashio, Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government, in which vice chairmen of Etsako East and Etsako Central local government councils were specifically directed to take over the roles of the decampee chairmen of the councils, the governor asserted that this “is a clear attempt to destabilize Edo State. ”

Apart from Anenih, the meeting was also attended by Chairman of the State PDP, Chief Dan Orbih and other party chieftains.

It was learnt that AC and PDP supporters engaged themselves in a free for all at Etsako Central when the vice-chairman tried to implement the directive given by Chief Anenih.

Vanguard was informed that the AC forces overpowered the PDP supporters with the support of the secretary to the state government, Mr Pally Iriase, who allegedly directed AC supporters to resist them.

It would be recalled that the Chairman of Estako East local government council, Mr Stanley Odidi and his counterpart at Etsako Central, Mr Joseph Ugheoke, councilors and other top party leaders of the PDP in seven local governments councils in the state recently decamped to AC.

However, Oshiomhole who sounded a strong warning to the PDP leaders, said “anybody caught formenting trouble will be dealt with according to the law.”.

Noting that Anenih, a former Minister of Works had been celebrating the decampment of other political figures into PDP without their being stripped of their positions, the governor wondered why the goal post was now being shifted for AC decampees.

Urging the respective local government administrations to ensure that peace reigned in their areas, the governor asserted that he would not hesitate to take legal and political action to guarantee peace and security in Edo State .
