Abia hikes land charges

Umuahia—Abia State Government has announced upward review of its land charges, as part of efforts to increase its internally generated revenue.

The government also said the need to review the land charges arose, as the charges in the state remains the lowest anywhere in the country, noting that the last review was done in 2006.

Meanwhile, the government has announced that its IGR has improved, adding that it increased to N238 million monthly.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr John Nwokocha, said this while briefing journalists on the outcome of last week’s executive council meeting.

Nwokocha said that Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) has now been scheduled, which makes its staff pensionable.

He also said that work has started on some roads in Aba with the mobilisation of the contractors

The Commissioner said the state government has constructed primary health centres in parts of the state to improve the quality of healthcare delivery.
