2010: PPA candidate woos Anambra Assembly

By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA—THE governorship candidate of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) for the February 6, 2010, election in Anambra State, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, yesterday held a meeting with members of the Anambra State House of Assembly to solicit their support to enable her achieve her gubernatorial ambition.

Though details of the meeting that lasted for about two hours were not made public, Ekwunife told reporters at the Assembly complex that her interaction with the state lawmakers was very fruitful.

According to her, there is nothing unusual for her to approach her fellow lawmakers who are of the PDP.

She added that the issue at stake was not about the party but about Anambra State.

“This state belongs to all of us and I see no reason I should be selective in my consultations for the forthcoming governorship election.

“Members of Anambra State House of Assembly are very important segment of the society as they control the people at the grassroots.

“In my campaign, I will not limit the contact, as I believe that everybody in the state is important if we must succeed,” she said.

The 30 PDP lawmakers in the House have been indifferent to the issues going on in their party, since the Supreme Court annulled the April 19, 2007 election of Dr. Andy Uba who made their success at the election possible..

Even in the heat of the battle for the control of the party in the state, the lawmakers were on the side of their colleagues in the National Assembly, as they vehemently opposed the then Uchenna Emodi–led executive of the party, while they supported the Bright Nebedum executive put in place by the Andy Uba group within the party.
