UGHELLI â€” At least one person has been shot dead and the palace of the Odionâ€™Ologbo of Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, HRH Ovrawa Omogha I, razed, following the alleged involvement of one of the sons of the monarch in the vandalization of one the old transformers in Emiye Road in the kingdom.
Four cars belonging to the monarch were also razed in the crisis that followed the alleged transformer vandalization.
The young man, whose name was simply given as Isaac Obama (aka Ibori), was said to have caught the vandals trying to vandalize the transformer after he had threatened to report the suspects to the police the following morning. The source added that the late Isaac Obama was alerted by the local vigilante at about 2am.
The police had arrested over five persons, including the son of the monarch, Prince Anthony Ovwrawa in the mayhem. The Rural Electrification Board (REB), installed the old transformer according to our source under defunct Bendel.
Vanguard gathered that the traditional ruler, HRH Ovrawa Omogha I,Â had fled the kingdom for fear of the unknown. A reliable source that pleaded anonymity, said the suspects went to vandalize the transformer in search of mercury.
It disclosed that the late Isaac Obama (aka Ibori) was ambushed and killed close to his house at about 3am by those suspected to be involved in the vandalization, perhaps to cover up their tracks, adding that the Odionâ€™Ologbo palace and four cars were razed on Saturday morning, in protest against the killing of Isaac Obama.
At press time,Â a six to six curfew had been imposed in Oleh by the State Government to forestall the escalation of the crisis. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oleh Police Division, Mr. Hassan Bappah,confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that he had call for security beep up in the community.
