MINNA — The 23rd edition of National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) has been declared open by First Lady, Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua just as she said the festival would go a long way in checking youth restiveness, stimulate national consciousness and promote unity among Nigerians.

Addressing the participants, at the Bako Kotogora Memorial Stadium, Minna, the first lady said the festival with the theme “Culture and challenges of our time; cultural industry and wealth creation” should not be seen as only avenue to co-habit, interact and share a common vision but as a tool for re-awakening national consciousness in all spheres of life.

She promised to partner with the wives of state governors in a renewed effort of empowering the youths and women, saying: “This festival (NAFEST) could be streamlined as a veritable tool towards achieving the goal.”

Earlier, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Senator Bello Jibrin Gada disabused the minds of Nigerians that perceive the exhibition of our culture as only to dance and entertain thus seeing it as obsolete, irrelevant and of no value to human and national development.
