Share value appreciates by N22bn

Driven by gains on the share prices of major blue chip companies, the value of listed equities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) appreciated, Wednesday, by N22.15 billion.

ting the value of quoted securities, rose by 0.43 per cent to close at N5.130 trillion from N5.108 trillion at which it opened.

The All-share index, also appreciated by 0.43 per cent to close at 22,065 points from 21,969.74 points at which it opened.
Lafarge Cement WAPCO Plc led the rally, as its shares appreciated by N1.50 to close at N32.50 per share, UAC Nigeria Plc followed with gain of N0.95 to close at N37.00 per share and Zenith Bank Plc garnered N0.66 to close at N14.00 per share.

Other share price gainers include: Ecobank Transnational Incorporated N0.55, Unilever Nigeria Plc N0.50, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc N0.38, Union Bank Nigeria Plc N0.24, First Bank of Nigeria  Plc N0.18, Dangote Flour Mills Plc N0.15, Oceanic Bank International Plc N0.15 among others.

On the other hand, Conoil Plc recorded the most share price loss, dropping by N1.31 to close at N36.00 per share, Nigerian Breweries Plc followed with a loss of N0.68 to close at N55.00 per share and Diamond Bank Plc dipped by N0.43 to close at N8.22 per share.

Other share price losers include: Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc N0.37, DN Meyer Nigeria Plc N0.32, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc N0.29, First City Monument Bank Plc N0.20, Intercontinental Bank Plc N0.19, African Alliance Insurance Plc N0.16, GTBank Plc N0.14 among others.

Equity trading dipped by 25.79 per cent, as a turnover of 447.35 million shares valued at N2.87 billion was recorded in 7,456 deals, in contrast to the previous day’s turnover of 602.79 million shares valued at N4.17 billion in 8,183 deals.

The Banking sub-sector dominated the other sub-sectors, accounting for 59.39 per cent of the market turnover, with 265.66 million shares valued at N2.09 billion in 4,643 deals. Zenith Bank Plc enjoyed the most patronage in the sub-sector, trading 34.58 million shares valued at N467.63 million in 319 deals, Fidelity Bank Plc followed with the exchange of 33.03 million shares valued at N61.64 million in 150 deals and Oceanic Bank International Plc recorded 28.39 million shares valued at N90.6 million in 539 deals.

The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 16.84 per cent of the market turnover, with 75.32 million shares valued at N108.53 million in 329 deals. Continental Reinsurance Plc recorded the highest transaction in the sub-sector, trading 47.38 million shares valued at N83.3 million in 51 deals, followed by Lasaco Assurance Plc with a turnover of 12.28 million shares valued at N7.02 million in 33 deals and NEM Insurance Company Plc recorded 2.54 million shares valued at N1.43 million in 35 deals.
