The Progressive Peoples’ Alliance (PPA) has denied joining a suit by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Martin Agbaso, against the election of Chief Ikedi Ohakim as the Governor of Imo State.
PPA in statement by Chief Ben Onyechere, National Publicity Secretary, said ‘the attempt to join Agbaso’s suit by one of PPA’s lawyers was done to lend more credence to our bid to retrieve our mandate from Ohakim which cannot be joined with any other party.
“The PPA couldn’t have gone to court to join Agbaso because the mandate in question belongs to PPA as adjudged by the juries of the election tribunal and Appeal Court which categorically stated that PPA won the governorship election in Imo state and not Ohakim or Agbaso, for which reason the party took the matter to the Abuja High Court in order to retrieve its mandate from Ohakim who defected to the PDP with the PPA mandate.
“It is obvious that there is more credibility in PPA’s suit than any other, therefore doing otherwise such as joining Agbaso would have been detrimental. We would rather discourage Agbaso because he is coming after PPA’s mandate.”
“The potency in the PPA suit is the reason Ohakim is targeting an expedited Court action against PPA in a suit in the Owerri High Court where he claimed that he was expelled by the Party for which reason he absconded with the party’s mandate.
“There is no escape route this time around in the suit against him at an Abuja High Court meant to retrieve the PPA mandate from him.â€
