ABAKALIKI—THE Nigeria Police Command in Ebonyi State,  yesterday paraded four suspected robbers, who the police said have been in the command’s wanted list.
Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Abakaliki, the Police spokesman, Mr Chris Anyanwu, said that on Tuesday this week at about 10. 30am, a patriotic citizen called-in and informed the Police that a gang of four robbers were operating within the Adazi-Enu Street in the state capital and the eagle squad team of the command swung into action.

“The suspects on sighting the police,  shot at the policemen, while trying to escape. However, one of the two motorcycles they came with failed to start, hence the rider had to abandoned it and jump over a nearby brick fence and board  another bike on the other side of the road and zoom off,” said Anyanwu.

The PPRO added that the police team chased after them and caught up with the suspect that scaled through the wall, latter identified as Ejike Nwafor, 23,  a.k.a Blood Sucker, a native of Umuezorka, Ezza-North Local Government Area,  but resident in Abakaliki.

The victim, one Chinagorom, who sells recharge cards was said to have narrated that she was supplying credit cards to her customers when the four criminals on two motorcycles besieged her at gun point and snatched the recharge cards totaling N82, 500, together with some other money on her.

Also arrested in connection with the crime were Nonso Okakpu, 22, popularly known as Selense, a native of Ikwo and Ikechukwu Ugwu, a.k.a Aikomo. Mr  Anyanwu said that efforts were on top gear to apprehend the remaining members of the gang, especially one of the victim’s customer,  who allegedly tipped-off the suspects after paying a previous debt owed the victim.
