LAGOS â€” A notorious robbery gang which specialised in attacking motorists and commuters along the Badagry expressway, Lagos,Â met its waterloo Wednesday night after four of itsÂ suspected members were arrested. The arrested suspects included twin brothers.
The robbery gang which took advantage of the hitch in traffic flow caused by the dayâ€™s down pour, reportedly carried a vehicle-to-vehicle operation during which their victims were dispossessed of cash, handsets and other valuables.
The suspected robbers who operated in four motorcycles, were said to have carried on until 9 p.m, when a team of anti-robbery policemen from Trade Fair stormed the scene.
Sighting the policemen, the bandits took to their heels. But unfortunately for four of them, they were caught and whisked into the policemen waiting van.
The suspects identified as Taiye Akinayo, Kehinde Akinayo, Lukeman Kasimu and Salamu Jamiu, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, had made useful statement that is helping the police in their investigation, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba .
Meanwhile, a two-bedroom flat in Ijeshatedo area of the state went up in flame at the early hours of yesterday, roasting one to death.
The fate of another victimÂ said to have suffered severe burns, could not be ascertained as at 5p.m yesterday as doctors were said to be battling to save her life.
